Does Security Trump Safety in Connected Systems?
Julian Day, Greenhills Software
In this talk the relationship between security and safety requirements is considered, particularly when a device is connected to a network, or has other mechanisms for external communication. The key principals for determining the security of a given system will be introduced, then the likely attack vectors into such systems will be discussed along with aspects which prevent any insecure system from being safe or reliable. To conclude, some practical guidance will be given on which components are necessary to build a sufficiently secure chain of trust for a wide range of systems.
