Enabling secure over-the-air updates

Julian Day, Senior Field Applications Engineer, Green Hills Software

Increasingly electronics equipment manufacturers across automotive, consumer, industrial and medical markets are seeking to take advantage of an Over-the-Air (OTA) update and communications capability for their internet-connected systems. This approach has the potential to save significant recall costs and provides a mechanism to generate an income stream from paid-for additional in-equipment software-enabled services. This talk highlights the software development process to prepare the software update or service, the back office secured infrastructure needed, the challenges of uniquely identifying one or many fielded devices, and security around delivery and verification on the end-device.
