Linkwave to launch new 4G PiIoT® HAT for the Raspberry Pi at EDS 2017

08 September 2017

Linkwave Technologies will launch a brand new 4G variant of the PiIoT® HAT for the Raspberry Pi at this year’s Engineering Design Show.

The PiIoT®, which is currently available as a 3G HAT with optional GNSS functionality, utilises an on-board Sierra Wireless HL Series module to provide a wireless interface which gives users access to internet data on the go; allowing them to browse the web effectively, send SMS, and transfer data using a mobile network connection, rather than tethering them to Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

The new 4G variant of the PiIoT® will allow developers and hobbyists alike to benefit from even more efficient connectivity, as it supports a variety of 4G/LTE frequency bands (B3, B8, B12), as well as 2G fallback.

Users are also able to run faster applications on the 4G PiIoT®, thanks to the on-board HL7692 module’s peak download speeds of up to 10Mbps, and upload speeds of up to 5Mbps.

The 4G PiIoT® is able to connect with the Raspberry Pi using USB communications, with separate channels for control and data. It can be powered by the Raspberry Pi, or via a separate power supply. Simple AT commands are used to control and monitor sessions on the HL module.

The PiloT®, which was recently selected as a finalist in the Product of the Year and Innovation in Tech categories at the Lincolnshire Digital and Tech awards, is compatible with the Raspberry Pi 2, 3 and Zero, and can also be used in standalone mode to provide communications to other development boards.

Linkwave Technologies will be on stand J10 at the Engineering Design Show.
