Inspiring the next generation of engineers
Iulia Motoc, Academic STEM Ambassador, University of Kent
During the past 50 years, we have been trying to encourage students to choose a career in engineering. However, studies have shown that, despite all our efforts, there has been no great achievement in the area. As a result, we create new institutes that will tackle this problem and, at the same time, try to get more people from underrepresented groups involved in engineering. What are we doing wrong and how can we inspire more children to choose engineering as a career path?
DURING THIS SESSION DELEGATES WILL LEARN:
- The importance of exposing children to STEM from a young age
- The problem(s) with the current approach used for promoting engineering
