Next generation electric machine designs

11:15-12:00

Mike Woodcock, Strategy Director, Advanced Electric Machines Research Ltd

Electric Motors are a key component of low carbon vehicles but they have some sustainability challenges of their own. Rare Earth Magnets are used in many designs as they offer high performance in compact designs, however they are listed as critical materials by the EU because of their difficulty to extract and the majority of their production being in a single country. Now, new technologies are being developed which remove the need for these materials while delivering the same levels of performance as PM Machines. Advanced Electric Machines, a world leader in these technologies, will explain their potential to revolutionise the sector.Electric Motors are a key component of low carbon vehicles but they have some sustainability challenges of their own. DURING THIS SESSION DELEGATES WILL LEARN:

1. The challenges associated with permanent magnet motors

2. Alternative solutions, their potential benefits and the performance they can deliver

3. How the UK is at the leading edge of the design of these solutions and how UK government is supporting to drive these technologies forward
